Twenty Five Years in This Trade, Sixteen of Them on Our Own

Mission Pest Management is a family company based in Locust Grove, serving Atlanta and the counties south and east of it. Michael Pope started in this industry in 2001 and has owned this company since 2010.

How this started

From the Inside of a Big Company to the Outside

Michael got into pest control in 2001. After a few years in the field he moved into management and spent eight years overseeing technicians across territory in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. He learned how a large company works from the inside, including the parts he did not want to repeat.

In 2010 he left and started his own company with nine years of experience behind him. Sixteen years later, that is still what this is. A small family operation that does the work, rather than a company that manages people who do the work.

We Could Be Bigger. We Are Choosing Not To Be.

There is a version of this business with fifteen trucks, borrowed money, and a sales team. We know how to do that. We watched it up close.

What happens in that version is that the person who answers your phone has never seen your house, the technician changes every visit, and everybody has a quota. Right now private equity firms are buying up pest companies across this metro and following exactly that playbook.

We are not going to be that. Two of Michael's sons work here, including Tanner. The rest of the crew are people this family has known for most of their lives. Everyone who walks into your home is somebody we know personally, and nobody here is working a commission target.

It limits how big we can get. We are fine with that.

How we work

Four Things You Can Count On

We tell you the truth, including when it costs us

Roughly once a week we are the second or third company somebody has called. By then the money has been spent and there is nothing left to sell, so all we can do is solve it. That is a fine way to work.

We are licensed for both sides

The Department of Agriculture regulates pest and termite work through the Structural Pest Control Commission. The Department of Natural Resources regulates wildlife, and issues that license to a person rather than a company. Michael holds both.

We fix the cause, not the symptom

Anyone can spray. Finding the entry point and sealing it is the part that ends the problem, and it is the part most companies skip.

We will send you elsewhere if that is the right answer

Michael has been in this trade for twenty five years and knows most of the good people in it. If we are not the right company for your job, we will hand you a name we trust.

The name

Why We Are Called Mission

The name is not decoration. A portion of what this company earns supports mission work overseas, funding people doing hard things in places most of us will never see.

We do not bring it up on the phone and we are not asking you to care about it. But you asked, or you scrolled this far, so now you know.

“They are ethical, timely, responsive and professional. Upon inspection, they did not find any problems so they told me the facts rather than lying so they could get paid to do unnecessary work.”

“I found a snake skin in my attic and sent an email. Michael responded immediately, got more information, and gave me a solution to my issue without someone coming out. He gave me peace of mind without charging me a dime.”
